Why the Silver Rate is the Same Across the UAE
Silver, like gold, is priced on the international spot market in US dollars per troy ounce (XAG/USD). Because the UAE dirham is pegged to the dollar at 3.6725, the AED silver price is a direct conversion — there is no emirate-level pricing body. Whether you buy in Dubai's Gold Souk, Sharjah's Blue Souk or an Abu Dhabi mall, the metal value per gram is the same; only making charges and dealer premiums differ.
Where to Buy Silver in Each Emirate
Dubai
Bullion dealers around the Deira Gold Souk and Gold & Diamond Park stock 1 oz coins, 100g and 1 kg bars. Widest selection and most competitive premiums in the country.
Abu Dhabi
The Madinat Zayed Gold Centre hosts jewellers selling silver alongside gold. Hamdan Street jewellers also carry silver jewellery and gift items.
Sharjah
The Blue Souk (Central Market) is known for Omani-style silver jewellery, khanjars and traditional Gulf pieces — often at lower making charges than Dubai.
Northern Emirates
Ajman, RAK and Fujairah have smaller jewellery markets where silver is sold in traditional souks. Selection is limited; for investment bars, Dubai dealers are recommended.
Silver vs Gold in the UAE — Key Differences
- VAT: silver always carries 5% VAT, even investment bars; 24K gold bars are zero-rated.
- Storage: silver is ~80× bulkier per dirham of value — a consideration for larger investments.
- Volatility: silver typically moves more sharply than gold in both directions.
- Resale: gold enjoys deeper buyback liquidity in UAE souks; silver buyback spreads are wider.
