What is 24K Gold?
24K gold is the purest form of gold commercially available — 99.9% (marked as 999 or 999.9 fineness). Unlike 22K (91.67% pure) or 18K (75% pure) gold, 24K contains no alloying metals such as copper or silver. This gives it a distinctively rich, deep yellow colour that lower karats cannot replicate.
Because 24K gold is very soft, it is rarely used for intricate jewelry in Dubai. Instead, it is the gold of choice for investment bars (sold as 1g, 5g, 10g, 50g, 100g, and 1kg), bullion coins (Maple Leaf, Britannia, UAE Gold Dinar), and certain traditional jewelry styles from China and Southeast Asia.
Investment gold (24K bars and coins) is VAT zero-rated in the UAE — you pay no 5% VAT. This, combined with Dubai's competitive spot premiums and the absence of import duty, makes Dubai one of the most cost-effective places globally to purchase 24K gold.
